Southern Manufacturing 2026: A Decade of Innovation and Networking
From 3rd–5th February, Phase One Electronics exhibited at the Southern Manufacturing Show in Farnborough. This annual event has been a key fixture in our calendar for the past ten years, showcasing innovations across the entire manufacturing spectrum—from contract electronics manufacturing to heavy machining, adhesives, automation, and 3D printing.
As one of the UK’s leading regional manufacturing exhibitions, the show brings together thousands of engineers, buyers, designers and decision-makers under one roof. It continues to provide an excellent platform for collaboration, innovation and industry insight.
Networking and Customer Connections
For us, the show is far more than an exhibition stand — it is an opportunity to strengthen relationships and build new ones.
We reconnect with long-standing customers who have trusted Phase One Electronics with their PCB assembly and electronic manufacturing requirements for many years. At the same time, we meet new prospects facing assembly challenges that need solving — whether that’s redesigning a PCB layout for manufacturability, improving production efficiency, or overcoming component sourcing constraints.
With nearly 40 years’ experience in contract manufacturing, we understand that customers are not simply looking for a supplier. They are looking for:
-
Consistent quality
-
Competitive pricing
-
Reliable delivery
-
Transparent communication
-
Long-term partnership
That holistic approach is what differentiates Phase One Electronics. We don’t just build boards — we support products from prototype through to full production, applying practical engineering insight at every stage.

Industry Trends and Manufacturing Innovation
One of the most valuable aspects of Southern Manufacturing is the exposure to wider industry trends.
This year, we saw continued focus on:
-
Supply chain resilience
-
Automation and production efficiency
-
Sustainable manufacturing processes
-
Advanced materials and additive manufacturing
Even outside the electronics sector, there is always something to learn. Manufacturing disciplines increasingly overlap, and innovations in machining, materials or bonding technologies often influence electronics assembly techniques.
Spending time walking the exhibition floor gives us insight into emerging technologies that may benefit our customers in the future.
Tooling, Fixtures, and 3D Printing Opportunities
Historically, our tooling and assembly fixtures have relied on what we refer to as “soft tooling” — simple, cost-effective, and extremely practical solutions built to improve consistency and repeatability on the production floor.
Recently, however, the introduction of 3D printed parts has significantly expanded our capability in this area.
By incorporating additive manufacturing into our workflow, we can now:
-
Produce bespoke assembly aids quickly
-
Create custom PCB support fixtures
-
Develop prototype enclosures and brackets
-
Refine ergonomic handling solutions
-
Reduce lead times for tooling adjustments
This added flexibility allows us to respond faster to customer requirements and make iterative improvements without long external lead times.
It was particularly interesting to explore the 3D printing stands at this year’s show. While there were fewer exhibitors in this area than we might have expected, it still provided a valuable opportunity to assess developments in materials, print accuracy and production scalability.
For Phase One, 3D printing is not about replacing traditional manufacturing methods — it is about enhancing them.
From Lead to Long-Term Partnership
The success of any trade show is often measured by the number of leads generated. However, experienced manufacturers know that the real value lies in identifying serious, technically viable enquiries.
Not every conversation turns into business. Some ideas remain conceptual; others face commercial constraints. But through careful evaluation and engineering discussion, we can quickly determine where we can add genuine value.
Our production engineering background has been the foundation of many highly successful partnerships over the years. Being able to take a complex assembly challenge and propose a straightforward, practical solution has helped cement strong Phase One/customer relationships built on trust and performance.
Strengthening Our End-to-End Offering
Southern Manufacturing 2026 reinforced something we have always believed:
Manufacturing success is built on collaboration, technical knowledge and adaptability.
By combining:
-
Surface mount and conventional PCB assembly
-
Inspection and test expertise
-
Prototyping services
-
Box build and cable assembly
-
Newly expanded 3D printing capability
—we are able to provide a comprehensive, end-to-end service for customers across marine, medical, defence, automotive, communications and research sectors.

Looking Ahead
Exhibiting at Southern Manufacturing remains an important part of our annual calendar. It allows us to:
-
Stay connected with the wider manufacturing community
-
Strengthen relationships with existing customers
-
Explore new technologies
-
Identify emerging opportunities
After a decade of participation, the event continues to deliver value — not just in leads, but in insight and inspiration.
Shows like Southern Manufacturing are a reminder of why we love what we do: connecting with customers, solving engineering challenges, and continually improving the way we manufacture.
We look forward to many more years of innovation, collaboration, and success.
